Chugach State Park

Chugach State Park is the third largest state park in the U.S.A  This half million acre park borders the eastern edge of Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska.

Mission Statement and Goals

The mission of the Chugach Park Access Coalition is to foster the public’s ability to enter Chugach State Park at multiple access points to ensure the opportunity for visitors to enjoy this valuable public resource with due respect for neighboring landowners.

Organization Goals:

  • Secure access points to meet public needs.

  • Ensure that public access easements are incorporated into plats of proposed subdivisions which could potentially restrict access to Chugach State Park.

  • Ensure that public parking is provided where appropriate in the vicinity of access points.

  • Advocate the design and construction of trailhead and parking facilities that are compatible with local neighborhoods

  • Create and maintain a prioritized inventory of present and potential access points.

  • Improve trail connectivity between Chugach State Park and other public lands.

  • Educate the public, government officials, and land managers about the benefits of adequate access to Chugach State Park.
